On my accident and missing out on the TDU...

January 19, 2012 What's going on by Jack Bobridge Edit

Obviously the last couple of weeks have been disappointing, but you have to look at the positives out of it as well.  There are no breaks, so it's only a matter of days now instead of weeks or months if it was a break.

It's disappointing, missing out on the Tour - the first time with GreenEDGE and also my hometown race, but it's not the end of the world and I have a big season ahead of me.

After the wasp sting leading into the Nationals and then my fall, hopefully that's all the bad luck out of the way and I can move on to having a big and successful year.

Thanks for everybody's kind words and good wishes.  Look out 2012...

An allergy to wasps too!

January 07, 2012 What's going on by Jack Bobridge Edit

I’d been doing a double training session. In the morning session - I was actually with Alexis Rhodes, the guy who looks after us, Les Clarke, and another good mate of mine Ryan Obst - a wasp flew down and got me straight in the mouth. I couldn’t do anything, it bit me just inside the mouth.

I’m normally allergic to bees and I have to carry an EpiPen around but I didn’t have it on me so I had to go to the clinic and sort it out. My face blew up like a balloon.

2011 UCI World Track Titles - Apeldoorn

March 24, 2011 What's going on by Jack Bobridge Edit

Individual Pursuit; To get the world record and the championship in the same year is mission accomplished for me.  I went in at Apeldoorn targeting the teams pursuit as it's the Olympic event but I broke the world record in the individual, so I couldn't go there and not say I was going for the win.  So, to race two and win two I couldn't ask for more.

I went out hard which was the plan but probably not the plan to go quite as hard but Ian McKenzie, my coach kept running up the line and when you're in a final like that you can't back off so I had to keep it going and hope for the best. I started to breathe pretty heavy there at halfway but I managed to control it and held him off and finally got the world title in the individual which I've been going for for a few years.

Team Pursuit; We saved a lot of energy that afternoon to make sure we could come out and really put the hammer down and take another win.   We did it quite comfortably, the main key was our smoothness and our control.  We have been training together and we know we can do it and can rely on each other.

Pursuit Record 4.10.5

February 04, 2011 What's going on by Jack Bobridge Edit

.. Well I can't believe I broke the unbeatable, well what everyone thought was unbeatable being Chris Boardman's record of 4.11.114 in the superman position and to do it in 4.10.5.  What an honour it was to do this on good old Aussie soil what a shock.. It still is a shock, it sends shivers down my back when I think about looking at the clock.  I also would like to give credit to Rohan Dennis on his 4.13.2 what a ride that was.  It scared me when he did that, thats for sure.

Thanks to everyone who has written on my guestbook, I appreciate your support and to my fans that have twittered as well.  I'd also like to thank my family and friends.

Stage 6 of TDU

January 23, 2011 What's going on by Jack Bobridge Edit

Our team tactics were to go out on the attack early to minimise bonus points as there was only an  8 second gap between Cameron and Goss.  Matt Wilson did a good job early in the race with a breakaway then he was supported with attacks by Travis.  The pace was fast and furious and the team did just enough to get Cam over the line by just 2 seconds.   The win capped off a great week for the team and it was great for  Cameron to get his first pro tour win.

Stage 5 - McLaren Vale to Willunga

January 22, 2011 What's going on by Jack Bobridge Edit

We started todays stage with Cam in the ochre jersey which meant it was going to be a hard day but as a team we rode awesome.  Tyler and Julian set the pace in the first half of the race.  They chased the break of 8 riders and then Brett, Matt Wilson and Trav took over setting the pace into the climb for our last 2 laps.  My job for today was to follow Cam and get both of us over the climb with as little energy spent as possible.  We did just that, but I found myself in a group of 3 and I couldnt work with Cam who was  left behind me.  I felt really strong today though, and was excited for the finish but I crashed with just 5kms to go.  It was the worst thing that could of happened leaving Cam on his own to fight for the finish, it was not good.  However,  he remains in the jersey by 8 seconds which is lucky.  We look at tomorrow to try and keep the jersey for Cam.
