![]() The Australian men's pursuit team, Jack Bobridge, Michael Hepburn, Cam Meyer and Dale Parker, show off their gold medals. (AAP: Dan Peled) Australia earned further bragging rights at the Velodrome in Delhi after winning the 4,000-metre team pursuit at the IG Sports Complex. The Australian quartet of Jack Bobridge, Michael Hepburn, Cam Meyer and Dale Parker easily claimed victory after overtaking New Zealand on the final lap prior to smashing the Commonwealth Games record with a time of 3:55.476. All but Parker won the world championship in Copenhagen last March and the Delhi triumph gives Bobridge and Meyer their second gold medals of the program. Bobridge, who also won gold in the individual pursuit, says he is ecstatic to win the team gold, considering how close they all are to each other. "To win an individual is fantastic, but to line up with some of your best mates...I live with these guys, I see these guys more than my mother and my father, my brothers and sisters now," he said. "To line up alongside these guys, who I have 100 per cent faith in, it's one of the best feelings in the world and tonight we did it again like we did earlier this year in March. "I couldn't ask for much more, it's just brilliant." Bobridge feels the efforts of the team pursuit reflect the renewed attitude the Australian track cycling team adopted in light of the horror showing at the Beijing Olympics, where it won only a silver medal. "We got knocked around in Beijing and we're starting to show the changes we made are starting to take effect," he said. "We're really starting to get back on top of the dais, where I think the Aussies belong and where we have been in the past." Parker replaced Rohan Dennis from the four that won gold at the world titles, illustrating the great depth Australia enjoys in the event. This was not lost on the 22-year-old Meyer, who feels gold in London is more than a realistic prospect. "I know it's still two years out and people are saying that we are going a bit early, but I think this team is that young," he said. See the full article in ABC Grandstand Sport here |
