![]() GOLD MEDAL: Jack Bobridge is hugged by his father Kahl after his individual pursuit win. Cycling superstar Jack Bobridge is capable of taking cycling's 'superman' record according to cycling authority Phil Liggett. Liggett, the voice of cycling, was commenting after Bobridge won two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India last week. Bobridge, from Evanston Park, took gold in the men's 4-kilometre individual pursuit and the 4000-metre men's team pursuit. The world record for the 4km individual pursuit, set in 1996, is held by England's Chris Boardman at 4 minutes 11 seconds. Boardman rode a style known as the 'superman position' which involved stretching out far ahead of his front wheel and making his back as flat as possible. The position was particularly aerodynamic however the Union Cycliste International (UCI) decided it was too dangerous and banned the practice in 2000. It was thought Boardman's record was unattainable without that type of technology but Liggett considers Bobridge has a chance. "Jack is the most likely rider racing at the moment to take Boardman's pursuit record," he said. "He is close now with two 4.14 rides. "I believe Jack has the brightest future and in the next two years will be looking at the Tour de France. "Along with Cameron Meyer he's a cut above the rest." The good news for South Australian fans is that Bobridge will be riding at the Super-Drome at Gepps Cross next month. Proud father Kahl said the 2010 Oceania Track Championships from Wednesday, November 24 to Saturday, November 27 would almost certainly be Jack's next assignment.
